Internship unofficially ends today ... :(

Today is my last internship day at BASF SE, Ludwigshafen. Next week, I'll be taking a week long vacation, just to finish up my remaining holidays as allocated by BASF in the internship agreement. In fact, even with the whole next week of holidays, I still have 3 days of holidays untouched. (BASF allocates 20 days of holidays - I can't believe it until I experienced it!).

Right now, I'm sitting alone in the office (everyone else has left the office heading for home). I'm still trying to configure out my mind, to take a deep breath, and to make my farewell with my workplace as good as possible. But, I can't help it but to feel very sad. I'm leaving for good, why should I be sad? Why?

Maybe it is because I think that BASF is one of the most wonderful things that ever happened in my life. At first I was not really happy with my work, as I found it very new and really confusing for me to understand. However, as the time passed by, I know it was really good to be here; to do the simulations, and to be a little bit creative with the processes involve. I feel the freedom of working independently, and I enjoy the flexibility given by my supervisor. It was really great.

I am not saying that my working experience is the very best experience for a chemical engineer. What I can say is, working experience in BASF is a very good one, and I just realize that I really enjoy working here after knowing that I am going back to Malaysia soon. It doesn't mean that I am not happy to return to my hometown and UTP, but I just feel very sad to leave all the 8-months working routine, and traveling experiences here. I can't imagine it! Just go with flow, they say. Yeah, I hope I can go with the flow.

I'm planning to travel to some places nearby next week, just to bring back the old memories during my first arrival days here. I hope that I can spend my last days in Germany properly, and I can bring back some beautiful memories to Malaysia.

As for BASF, I will miss it, starting from now, always and forever. I hope I can live with it. :(

Yet another boring post: About Internship

*Introduction: Just another digital work that I have done last night. Tell me what you think. (Tak ada kaitan dengan topik di atas)

I need to write something today. Since I am still doing my internship, I am still in good mood to write about it, and it is good to reflect something about the program. My focus would be about the objectives of the program and how far they have been achieved.
These are the objectives of the internship program taken directly from the UTP Internship Guidelines (2007). The objectives of the training are as follows:
• To integrate theory with practice
• To introduce students to work culture and industrial practices
• To give opportunity to students to work with industrial practitioners
• To expose students to potential employers
• To acquaint the UTP students with industry and its programs

In my opinion, most of the objectives were achieved but in different ways for each and every intern. Dealing with different companies; different tasks, with different working environment, it is not easy for the interns to achieve the same objectives. Some companies really give the opportunities for their interns to really work, to be part of the team while some other companies will not give such high responsibilites for the interns to manage.

I have no complaints towards my internship. It is such golden opportunity to be in BASF and to learn research-based work. I have never thought that Chemical Engineering is very diverse from what I imagined before. It is an eye-opener for me. Experiencing life in a foreign country is really great, too. In fact, life experience here is far greater in term of value than the working experience.
I however do have complaint about the application procedure to BASF; about some administrative issues related to the program. It is not a big matter for my friends and I, at least. I just heard that thing got worse for my junior batch (Jun 2008 - Jan 2009 Internship). They didn't get advancement in scholarship and the flight was delayed for two weeks. For my batch, it was only one week, and we got the advancement in scholarship. Maybe for some people advancement in scholarship is nothing, but for me it is really an important issue.

I just feel sorry for them. I just hope that things will not get worse than it already is for the incoming batches. Do they really read the recommendations written by the students in the final report? I wish that they read and seriously implement the solution so that everything will get better. If things get worse, I am not really sure what are recommendations for.

Boring, huh? I'm bored too, that's why I am typing another blog entry today. :p

Menghitung Hari...

Pejam celik pejam celik sekarang dah hampir tamat pun.

Mizi, Tzu Fen, Aku, Pei Chie, Amir (not in the photo: Angie)

Aku rindukan kawan-kawan, terutamanya my bestest buddy, Harith bin Razali.

In fact, aku tak rasa apa-apa pun.
I will miss a lot of things here. :D

A big relief & hiking experience in Edenkoben

*Baru saja selesai final presentation untuk internship. A very big relief. :)

Now, I have more time to update the blog, as usual. As promised, I will share about the hiking experience. Semuanya bermula bila aku dimaklumkan ada aktiviti hiking for my department. At first I thought I wasn't invited for that activity since I didn't get any invitation letter. So, I called my supervisor, and it turned out that I was invited as well. :)

From the workplace, we went to Edenkoben which is about 45 km away. When we first arrived at the hiking place, I never thought that it will be very interesting. We just walked along the flat pathway, the scenery is almost similar to the one that we can see in Malaysia. I was very lucky to have a friend, Mark who brought a camera. So, I asked for his help to capture my first photo there.

Memulakan langkah with Bismillah..and peace :)

When we walked at higher altitude, it was getting more and more interesting. The scenery of the forest was very much different at the higher level, and the weather condition was really refreshing. It was really great. Nature is indeed one of the most fantastic things in the world.

More peace :)

Since we took the long route which was about 15 km, it was really time consuming and tiring experience, maybe because I haven't do any sport in ages. :p

Berhenti rehat seketika. Yes, my hair is getting longer, again. I don't plan to get my hair cut done during my last month here. :p

On the way to the top, I have this picture captured. This is my supervisor. He is from India. Well, he is very good in English. I have learnt a lot from him.

With my supervisor (right) and an intern from Malaysia.

And these are some more photos at the highest level that we explored that day.

With the Head of GCT/S

With Mark, a colleague at the office

At the end of the hiking activities, we were treated with dinner. The cuisines were totally different when compared to Malaysian cuisines, tapi bila lagi nak merasa makanan di sini?

Hey, it is one more month to go. I am really happy with this fact, but at the same time, I feel very sad to leave wonderful experiences in this wonderful land; the Deutschland. Happy and sad; can they really be together?

p.s: Good luck to those who will be having their presentation soon.

Kecuakan kemelandaan.

Presentation next week. 10 June 2008.
Dr. Chandra Mohan yang evaluate. Never heard of him before.

Asalnya Dr. Zakaria yang patut evaluate. Tapi tak jadi.
Ayah beliau telah kembali ke rahmatullah. Al-Fatihah buat arwah.

Wish me luck everyone.
And for those who will present next week,
I wish all of you all the best. May Allah bless us :D

See you later.
After presentation :D

My body is killing me!

Baru balik dari Edenkoben

First time hiking..and it's a 15-km route!
Now, my body is killing me..
Sengal all over..
Maklumla dah lama tak exercise..huh~

Feels like my legs need 15 days of rest.

Tapi kan orang ckp without pain, life is not beautiful.
Betul tak betul you are the only one who can answer..

For me..
Yeah..it was a whole lot of fun!
Penat tapi berbaloi...except for the food. Hahaha. :p

Next time I'll post about this in details, with photos (need to claim them first)

Monday, June 2

Masyukk... :D

Tengah masyuk buat slide show untuk presentation next week, tiba-tiba terngiang-ngiang lagu 'Humko Hamise Chura Lo' yang aku layankan sebelum pergi kerja pagi tadi. Apa lagi, aku pun membuka laman web kesukaan ramai YouTube dan searched for that particular song. Waaah...masyuknya..nak tahu kenapa masyuk? Tengoklah liriknya. Hehehe. :p

Aaaaaaa... hmm hmm..

Humko humise chura lo, dil mein kahin tum chupa lo
(Steal me from myself, hide me somewhere in your heart)

Hum akele kho naa jaaye, door tumse ho naa jaaye
(Don't let me get lost in loneliness, don't let me lose you)

Paas aao gale se lagaa lo
(Come to me, take me in your arms)

Lalalala..~

Masyuk, kan?
Steal me from myself, steal ME! Steal ME!
Hahahaha.

Jangan salah sangka, aku bukan kutuk lagu Hindustan.
In fact, aku selalu dengar lagu Hindustan.
I love the musics, and the melody.

Aaaaaaa...
Aaaaa..~

p.s: Teringatkan pesan sv supaya buat 7-8 slides saja untuk presentation. Keep it simple, maybe not more than 15, katanya. Aku buat 16, boleh tak? Ampun ampun terlebih satu slide. Huhuhu.

Survey on internship programme.

Here it goes, the poll result.

Question:

Internship will end soon. How do you feel?

Possible answers:
1.Great. No more work loads. No more over time.
2.Great. Back to student life. UTP. Ipoh. DC++.
3.Sad. I will leave my working life and great experiences during internship.
4. Sad. I will miss my office mates and my supervisor.

The result:

The most chosen answer is 'Great. Back to student life. UTP. Ipoh. DC++.'
How much we have missed UTP and our homes?
I feel this way, too. Missing home and hectic life in UTP :D
Most of us feel that studying is better than working, huh?
Ok..sometimes working is better than studying - for certain reasons.

At the second place: 'Sad. I will leave my working life and great experiences during internship.'
Not all experiences are good, but that is the reality- the truth.
Good or bad, all of them are memories that will not be forgotten, forever.
Put aside the bad things, and keep the good ones alive in our hearts. :D

Third place: 'Sad. I will miss my office mates and my supervisor.'
We do have new friends. If 7-8 months is not enough for even a new friend during internship, then it must be a very sad story to be told later. Friends, we will always need them, and the best of all are the ones that we really need whether we are sad or happy, whether we are alone or not.

Last but not least: 'Great. No more work loads. No more over time.'
I guess most of the interns are not burdened with tonne of works. But I do hear from some of the interns that they were burdened with lots of works in some work places (nama syarikat dirahsiakan atas sebab-sebab tertentu). Just bear with it okay, only one month++ to go. :p

Status-status di Yahoo Messenger...

Arghhhh..penatnya otak membuat report. Tak sampai sebulan lagi final presentation untuk internship. Cuak-cuak.
Balik nanti jaga-jagalah dia. Heheh.
Okeh, dah tak lama lagi. Lepas ni semua ini akan berakhir.
Kadang-kadang, bila bosan, aku lihat status kawan-kawan di Yahoo Messenger. Aku tahu, kamu semua pun suka melihat status di YM kan. Jangan nak menafikannya. Aku tahu.

Yang biasa aku lihat:-

0. tiada dalam talian - aalim.
1. haish..too bad~ - tuan dia kata ini tag, kena letak lama2. hahaha.
2. Be Right Back - status biasa bila tuan dia keluar sekejap - tandas, makan
3. Stepped Out - status untuk tuan yang keluar lama cket - kedai, jalan2 bilik orang
4. Busy - tuan dia mungkin tengah membuat kerja, report atau tengok movie. :p
5. Ada yang asyik Availabe.

6. Ada yang asyik Invisible. Aku tahu. Dulu aku pun asyik invisible juga. Sekarang pun, kadang-kadang. Aku faham sometimes kita tak nak diganggu, kan? Hahaha.
7. Ada yang asyik tukar-tukar status. - akulah tu dan beberapa lagi rakan-rakan.
8. Ada yang asyik berstatus jiwang. - you know who you are. Hehehe :p
9. Ada yang status keagamaan dan kerohanian. Insaf seketika semasa aku membacanya.
10. Ada juga status yang merepek-repek. Nyampah aku baca.

11. Ada yang asyik status pasal bola. Sekarang jarang pulak dia online. So dah xde update pasal bola lagi.

Hahaha. :p
16. Tidak dilupa status yang mempromote blog masing-masing. :D

Sekarang aku suka tengok status Wadieq:
- FoR THINGS I did wr0ng, f0r WORDS which might hurt, f0r JOKES U can`t take, f0r ADVICE U can`t accept, 1001 Ap0LoGiES fr0m me

Status aku, pun aku suka juga: (aku kena suka, kalau tak siapa lagi nak suka?)
- Patience is a virtue. But limit it has.

Aku nak sambung buat report pula. Aku doakan yang terbaik untuk kita semua. Good luck with report and presentation nanti. All the best. Amin. :D

Warning!! Achtung achtung...

Ding dung..ding dung. Achtung, achtung..
(maksudnya: Ding dung..ding dung. Perhatian, perhatian..)

I realize that being in the office inside a chemical plant, the danger is always there. Long long time ago, in 1921, dah pernah berlaku explosion di sini. Read here. Seriau juga aku lepas membaca pasal explosion ni suatu ketika dulu. Some of the facts:

*The explosion was estimated be equivalent to about 1–2 kilotonnes of TNT and was heard as a loud bang in Munich, more than 300 km away.

*The pressure wave ripped roofs off up to 25 km away and destroyed windows even farther away. In Heidelberg (30 km from Oppau), traffic was stopped by the mass of broken glass on the streets.

*About 80 percent of all buildings in Oppau were destroyed, leaving 6500 homeless. At ground zero a 90 m by 125 m crater, 19 m deep, was created.

Nonetheless, I think chemical plant is one of the safest workplaces. See here:

and also here. Anymore link(s) to make me feel safer? Hahaha. just kidding.

Report...and report.

In progress of finishing formal report for the first project. Alhamdulillah everything goes well, and my supervisor gives very much supports and advices in doing the report.

Now, wanna start doing the final report, which I have wanted to start from the last week but it was postponed due to changes of weather. (Alasan semata). Sekian.

Ok ok, to make my post longer, this is part of the report. Enjoy...hahaha.

''DEEPSim which stands for Discrete Element for Engineering Particulate Simulation is a proprietary software developed by BASF to model the particulate systems using the discrete element method. It uses linear spring dashpot model to.....bla bla bla....''

You don't understand it? Don't worry, I also don't...hahaha.

That's it, done for today. Its 4.30 pm. Wanna go home now. :D

What I do & don't like working with computer...

I do like:

- indoor work, worry-free about the weather

- eat & drink anytime i like

- tease and talk to my office mates whenever I like

- surfing the internet when I'm bored to death

- hear to musics all the time

- keyboard and mouse - yesssza I am a computer freak!

I don't like it when and only when:

the computer ''hang'', stucked, jammed... all those words that make all of my works gone in 60 seconds!

just like TODAY! dammit.

I guess I should bear with the only reason I don't like about working with computer.
Should I?

Hujan Emas di Negara Orang....

Dua bulan
Bagaimana agaknya..?

BASF Headquarters in Ludwigshafen

Pengalaman
Alhamdulillah.

Everyday scenery in BASF

Communication

Maaflah, kami cuma tahu 'danke' (thank you), 'bitte' (welcome).... Menyentuh bab communication, English is not a prominent language here. In order to be able to survive, learning a few words of German would be quite good. At least xlah rasa macam rusa masuk kampung sangat. (walaupun kadang-kadang terasa seperti itu juge..). See how difficult English is for them (that is comparable to how difficult Deutsch is for us..hahah):

Gathering

The most interesting thing here is to meet the Malaysian students yang belajar di sini. Of course, I'll miss them so much bila balik nanti. For the time being, harap-harap akan ada lebih banyak gathering and we can hang out together. Best2.

They are so cool =D

Memasak

Lucu bukan. Namun itulah hakikatnya. Lets face the fact okay. Sekarang, aku sudah 'agak' mahir memasak nasi, okay? =D.

Kerja

Kerja??Kerja sememangnya best, you can go to work as you please as long as you get the working hour of 37.5 hours/week. Isn't that beautiful..?

Normallah....macam kehidupan seharian, it is always complicated and unpredictable. Kalau x, there is no fun la, kan?

Tram system: Most effective in-town transportation

Transportation
What I respect the most here is the transportation system. Sistem pengangkutan di sini amat efisyen. There is no wonder that they were really frustrated when the MAS flight was delayed for 24 hours + 4 hours during my first flight last year. Di sini, setiap hari kami menggunakan tram (it is quite similar to lrt system in Malaysia but it is operated on the ground, parallel to road network instead of on 'bridges').
The same thing goes to train system. I wonder when we will have similar system in Malaysia. It covers all over the country and it is very efficient. No wonder here there are very few cars on the road. Bukan minyak masak...minyak petrol. Kalau minyak masak, Malaysia x cukup bekalan. Huahaha. =p

ICE: Germany bullet train

Cabaran

Everything seem to be nice..huh? Everything seem to be nice doesn't mean that everything is nice.

Germany is a very nice country. I wonder why those Hollywood film producers keep saying something bad about Germany in their films. Maybe they should come here and see how the German people really are.

Malaysia

Macam-macam mana pun, seindah mana pun negara orang, aku tetap merindui negara sendiri. (famili dan kengkawan..dun get me wrong).

Bosan

Tapi otak aku makin pening. Bosan pun ada.

Tapi itulah keje. Getus hati kecik ku yang semakin membunga bosannya. Aku tengok orang lain best je masuk lab. Tapi aku mungkin takkan dapat masuk lab kat sini sebab keje aku xde kena mengena ngn lab. Tapi xpe la, ada orang cakap lab lagi bosan. Aku at least kalau bosan pun ada juga internet peneman hidup kat opis ni. Hehe... =D

Rite now, I miss my family so much walaupon baru je aku call last week. This week mau call lagi. Hehe. Seronok dengar suara mak, x jemu walaupun kadang-kadang cakap benda yang sama je berulang kali. I guess that is the power of a mother.

Okela..nak sambung keje. Jane..~
